If my high school Latin serves me, this proverb is the translation of a declaration by the Roman poet Virgil, in 70 B.C.E.. A variation of his Latin phrasing is “Amor omnia vincit”. It is as true now as it was then.
For the past few months I have had a problem seeing clearly. I made multiple visits to optometrists and ophthalmologists with no resolution in spite of following recommendations. Then I had an appointment with a highly experienced optometrist who correctly diagnosed the cause and gave me a new treatment plan which was successful. It was simple, easy and pain free. It felt like a miracle. I gained an understanding of how others with vision challenges feel, and am thankful for the gift of that experience.
I don’t believe it was a coincidence that my appointment with the last doctor was on the 21st day of our new practice experiment of taking a minute every day to be in a state of pure love to counter negativity in the world.
There is a commonly used phrase “scales falling from one’s eyes” to describe a moment of clarity. I believe I experienced a literal, personal, physical manifestation of that as a validation. Setting aside as little as one minute a day to just be in a mindful state of unconditional love does create miracles, big and small, individual and global.
I ask that you continue to make a habit of taking a minute a day to love the world back to health, one person at a time, beginning with yourself. And encourage your friends to join you in the practice. It has proven effective in my life.
I can see clearly now – amor omnia vincit.
