Happy Renewal

It’s Spring, and the time of celebrations of renewal – spiritual, religious, and cultural. Yet there is an underlying sadness because there is a war going on again. For those of us who are of a certain age, it is a feeling of deja vu, grieving about circumstances beyond our control that perverted the good we know to exist and expected. If we are feeling disillusioned, it is because we assumed the illusion we envisioned was also desired by those who had the power to direct mass actions for peace and prosperity, and then the choice was made to do otherwise.

It is more important than ever now to proactively engage in radical self-love. The only control we truly have is over ourselves – our thoughts, words, and actions. How do we deal with the fear and uncertainty the media uses to influence us? An acronym for fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. That’s a pretty good definition of fake news, isn’t it? We have the ability for discernment. As Galileo famously wrote in 1615, “I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.” We can indeed think for ourselves, and change our thinking if new evidence comes to light from a reliable source.

We can redirect our minds to think of something else – holistically we are spiritual beings having a brief human experience involving spirit, mind, and body. Come back to thoughts of love and peace, where we are being kind to ourselves and others, even those whose worldview is different than ours. It’s important to stay grounded and keep our self-care routines going – consistency is powerful. Set a daily intention to be in the flow of unconditional love, breathe mindfully, be grateful, practice forgiveness, eat real food, engage in laughter, relax, move your body purposefully with exercise. Stay informed but give yourself permission to avoid the news cycle; have conversations with trusted friends; remind yourself you’ve survived and thrived during difficult times before. And continue to activate and acknowledge miracles in your life.

Continue to allow your light to illuminate the world though love, in co-existence not in battle. Miracles don’t follow rules – they can happen instantly. Trust the healing process. Happy renewal.
